If you haven’t yet taken a meter read, most meters are situated at the boundary of your property, under a lid about the size of a CD case, that can be lifted open with a screw driver.  If the meter is under a larger cover, situated in the road, or it is not safe to read the meter, you should not attempt to read it yourself.
