With the current heatwave, it is important that everyone stays hydrated. Moreover, it is no better time to take advantage of the high quality tap water that is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week straight from the tap.
Despite the hot weather and the summer period ahead, which will see a large increase in demand from our customers, we are not anticipating any water restrictions this summer. This is due to the normal natural recharge of the chalk aquifers beneath the South Downs over the winter period, which provide most of our water.
This does not mean that we should not be looking after our precious resource. Whilst our groundwater levels are in line with the long-term average we always encourage our customers to use water wisely. Every time we turn on the tap, we are taking water from the environment. Therefore, anything that can help us take less can only be a good thing.
Why not try our water saving challenge. By taking the challenge, you will be able to work out how much water you use, what simple steps you can do to use less and even work out if you could save money by requesting a meter.
Bob Taylor, CEO of Portsmouth Water, stated, “I am pleased that our water resources position is healthy such that we do not anticipate any need for usage restrictions over the coming months. It is important that during the summer, everyone stays hydrated and drinks plenty of water but equally I would urge our customers to take up the water saving challenge via our website, see how we can all make small changes to our behaviours, and use less water. Every drop saved is a drop not taken from the environment”.
