SUCCESS FOR PORTSMOUTH WATER AT THE EBP SOUTH ‘AMAZING PEOPLE’ AWARDS 2015 and HANTS & IOW 2015 WORK CHOICE AWARDS

Portsmouth Water is celebrating winning an Employee Business Partnership (EBP) ‘Amazing People’ Award in the category of ‘Amazing Business involved in STEM’. The award was presented at the 2015 Amazing People Awards Dinner which was held at the Solent Hotel, Whiteley on Thursday 12th November.

The awards, which are held annually, are a celebration of the time and commitment businesses, schools, colleges and other partners invest in developing innovative programmes that support young people’s preparation for adult life and work.

The ‘Amazing Business involved in STEM’ award was sponsored by Portsmouth College. STEM stands for Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics.

The award was giving to the Company in recognition of the work we have done with schools and young school leavers in promoting activities relating to STEM helping them prepare for the world of work. The award was collected by Sue Allery, James Bucknall, Tanya Bromley, Steven Geary and Connor Smith who are some of our staff volunteers that helped deliver a number of our STEM activities, most notably the TeenTech event held this year in the Guildhall.

Neville Smith, Managing Director, on winning the award said: “To win this award is a great achievement and a positive reflection of the work we do in supporting the local community. We are a long standing supporter of the EBP and are fully supportive of its aims in helping young people to be better prepared for the work environment. Of course this cannot be done without the fantastic help of our staff who continue to volunteer to support our community activities, often in their own time and over and above their normal day job.”

The award culminates in a successful period for the Company as we also received 3rd place in the 2015 Hants and IOW Work Choice “Employer of the Year” awards. The work choice awards are for employers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment in creating opportunities and supporting those with disabilities in the workplace.
