Portsmouth Water CEO Outlines Plans for £377 Million Investment on V2 Radio

Portsmouth Water CEO Bob Taylor sat down with Philip Keeler, News Editor at V2 Radio, to discuss our ambitious plans to invest £377 million in securing and future-proofing the region’s water supplies.

During the interview, Bob spoke to the communities across West Sussex and South Hampshire, to share information about the current challenges we face and what we need to do to meet these challenges head on.

This interview reflects Portsmouth Water’s commitment to transparency, ensuring customers are well-informed about upcoming changes and initiatives.

“Water is precious and valuable, and we must do our bit to save it.”  Bob Taylor, CEO Portsmouth Water

We have been very fortunate to live in an area with plentiful springs and aquifers, allowing us to experience an abundance of water. But, during the interview, Bob explains that this situation is changing.

There are several contributing factors as to why our area is classified as ‘water stressed’. Population growth, ageing infrastructure, the need to preserve our precious environment and climate change are all contributing factors.

Portsmouth Water’s £377 million investment envelope will be used to mitigate these challenges and futureproof water infrastructure, ensuring stable and reliable supplies for generations to come.

During the discussion, Bob shares how Portsmouth Water has committed to improving and upgrading their systems and infrastructure, including the smart water meter rollout. Smart water meters will enable leak alerts, helping to save water that would otherwise be lost.

In addition, the interview sheds light on how Portsmouth Water plan to upgrade aging pipelines and pumping stations, plus building Havant Thicket Reservoir, which will help protect the region by ensuring water security. The new reservoir is also important to the local economy, recruiting local people and using local companies and contractors. Bob said:

“We very much see ourselves as a local company, investing in the local community, with local people working within the business” Bob Taylor, CEO Portsmouth Water
